Widgets Quick Start
Build a useful dashboard widget from a saved report or a direct source in just a few steps.
Step 1 - Open Dashboards
Go to Dashboards and open an existing dashboard or create a new one. Make sure you already have either a saved report or a connection you want to use as the widget source.
Step 2 - Choose the widget type
Click Add widget and choose the widget type that best matches the outcome you want: stat, chart, table, list, progress, funnel, or text.
Step 3 - Pick the source
For data widgets, choose whether the widget should use a saved report or query a connection/table directly. If you use a direct connection source, choose the table and fields before continuing.
Step 4 - Configure the widget
Set the display fields, aggregation behavior, pagination, date range, or chart axes depending on the widget type. Review the preview before saving.
Step 5 - Save and arrange the layout
Save the widget, then drag and resize it on the dashboard until the layout feels right. QueryCanvas saves the layout so the dashboard opens in the same arrangement later.
Recommended patterns
- Use stat widgets for one key number with a clear label and unit.
- Use charts when trends or comparisons matter more than raw rows.
- Use tables when viewers need detailed rows with pagination.
- Use text widgets to add notes, definitions, or live markdown callouts.
